What will you learn at Trap Camp?

Using the NRA training method of Total Participant Involvement, this camp will provide hands-on learning opportunities in the following areas:

• safe firearm handling
• firearm parts and operation
• ammunition and its function
• shooting fundamentals and an opportunity to develop them on the trap range
• how to select, clean and store a firearm
• participants will also learn about continuing opportunities in marksmanship training and competition

When and where will the camp be held?   Classroom instruction will be conducted at the Izaak Walton League clubhouse.  The practical shooting portion will be conducted at the trap range on the Izaak Walton grounds. The course will begin at 9:00 AM and conclude at 4:00 PM on August 7th. The practical shooting will be conducted on August 8^th from 1-5 PM.

Who are the course instructors?    The instructors are NRA-certified instructors affiliated with Venture Crew 2000 and the Cedar Sport Shooting Club. Instructors are also registered with the BSA and will be able to certify the completion of shotgun merit badge requirements.

How much will the course cost?       The cost of the course is $25, which includes instructional materials, firearms and ammunition. Participants should bring their own lunch on August 7th.

Who can attend?           The class is coed and is open to any youth who has reached their tenth birthday by the date of the class.

Are there any other benefits?   Graduates of this class will be eligible to participate in the Crew shooting programs (rifle and shotgun).  Participants in the 6^th, 7^th and 8^th grades may participate in the Crew Junior Trap Team. Older participants may compete with the Senior Team.
